This model I started a while back as part of my Pixologic/Maxon ZBrush live stream. I quickly fell in love with this species of bee. This is a male orchid bee, there are many species of orchid bees, almost all are found in central and south America. I chose to do a male Euglossa dilemma which, I believe is known to pollinate crepe ginger flowers among many other types of flowers (including orchids). I'm working towards doing an animation that explains the mechanics of this bee's really long tongue (glossa). Now that I finally have the model finished I can start working on the actual animation. I sculpted and painted in ZBrush, textured in Marmoset. I rigged it in Maya and created the fur using yeti. These images are rendered in Redshift for Maya. I included the links to the videos of my livestream if you want to see how I go about making models like this. I made the flower in ZBrush as well (see my post on the crepe ginger flower)
