I was commissioned by the artist Donna Dodson to create some digital versions of her famous wood sculptures. I really enjoyed having the opportunity to pay tribute to a favorite artist of mine. I've been following her for many years. Her celebration of mythology, feminism, and animals is something that I find intriguing. Its also fun learning about another artist's style by recreating it digitally, a bit like learning a Hendrix guitar solo note for note. I believe its always good to look for opportunities to explore divergent styles and techniques and expand the range of my skillset. I sculpted the models based off of photographic reference and used high resolution images as source for the wood texture. the texture was the truly challenging part, trying to recreate the design of the wood grain. ZBrush extract brushes were really helpful in the process as was the ZBrush spotlight tools. I rendered some images and turntables using Redshift for Maya and she is incorporating my renders as part of the videos and animations that accompany the show. The gallery show opens November 1st 2022 at the Boston Sculptor's Gallery. For more information check out Donna's website: https://www.donnadodsonartist.com/#/amazons/
