A model of a Mexican Honey Wasp (Brachygastra mellifica). I created this for an Octane/Nuke tutorial I wrote for Issue 88 of 3D Artist magazine. For reference I used my microscope and a couple of specimens of this particular insect. I also used the photography of Alex Wild and he was kind enough to offer advice and help on the accuracy of the model. Hope to use this in an animation soon! I do need to work on the wings a bit more. Like some other species of wasp the wings actually kind of fold up like a pita when they are at rest which is a real pain to try and model, but at some point I'm sure I will get to it. These wasp apparently really do make honey although I have no idea what it tastes like.
